Well, finally thought too cold and wet in the UK, so have agreed with Mrs G it's time to come over to the dark side, deposit on boat gone down, now it's the pain of survey etc...

No more flappy things in the way of what little sun we have, wipers and heating on when it rains etc.. etc..

Probably do a lot of pottering to start with until confidence in the engines (and me going above 8 knots).

Any advice for for a raggie welcome

Ian

no, a bit more

meaty than that, looked at a colvic trawler but mrs g didn't like the cabins, galley and general insides..

chosen boat has blue hull with wood bits and rubber all round

You've not talked Timmy Spall into selling his barge.:D

Seriously though.
One of the nicest motor sailer's I have ever been on is the Nordier Van Dam boats but I don't know if they are still made.

oh joy, the sail boat was about £100 a year

Ian

Dont worry about the fuel Ian, think of it more as an annual cost than cost per trip , at the end of the year you will not have used enough to worry about, if you calculate the cost per mile of Sunbeat including berthing you may well find the Nelson is cheaper to run as you will clock up far more miles.

I thought you were both life long sailors, dont worry if you miss the Jeaneau , you could compromise

Welcome to the dark side and best of luck :)

With a fuel budget of 100 squid you'll be able to start both engines and run up to temperature about 4 times a year if you're lucky:eek:

But I'm sure you'll love it.:D

there was a sort of poll on here recently, about what an ex sailor would prefer and nelson was one near the top of the list.

...although the idea of pointing the boat in the direction you actually want to head may take some getting used to...;)

that is exactly what mrs G says!! however the fuel is coming out of her house keeping/hair do/nail bar/shoe budget/.....................
