It\'s very quiet in our house, tonight....

'cos Jon Bailey and family left this afternoon;they shld be in the air on their way home by now. Hope you had a good flight, Jon, and managed to get some sleep to dream about that Doral 250SE. And I trust you occasionally checked your new Garmin 176C to ensure the pilot was on course. We really enjoyed yours and your family's company.

Are you allowed to do that on a flight, doesn't switching on your GPS make the 747 loop the loop or something?

I wouldn't think it's a problem, as the GPS is a passive device, unlike a mobile phone which is emitting electromagnetic radiation/signals. Jon, I'm sure, will let us know if his plane looped the loop. Well, on second thoughts, he might not notice after all the rides he's recently been on.

No Dave, it's been pouring with rain since last night with the occasional thunder and lightning. It's warm rain though:). Went down to cover the boat with the tonneau cover last night as the rain started, but it had shrunk after I had put it in the washer and dryer. Got it on as far as we could, but I suspect the rain went straight through. I'll take a look in a bit. We need a new one anyway, as the Sunbrella has just about had it after 10 yr. Sunbrella is marvellous stuff.
Jon B and family got out just in time - well, I assume they did, but there was a tornado watch in Orlando yesterday afternoon.

I hope that you did not wash the cover for our benefit, it was quite tidy enough for us without that.

If you try washing and drying the boat it could shrink to fit the tonneau. If you do it enough it may even shrink to a size that I can buy!

I think I would prefer warm rain than 6 inches of snow even if the boys cannot make snowmen in Florida.

No Jon, I didn't wash the tonneau for your benefit. I had been intending to do it for some time, but I shld have left it to Maureen as she wld have known better than to put it in the drier.
Nice day today and I did absolutely nothing except spend two hours on phone w/HP support in New Delhi. Plugged a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card into my laptop, it flashed an error message and said Windows had fixed a serious error but now I can only get funny characters instead of letters in just about all Windows progs. Everything else looks OK - icons etc, but I can't read anything. HP cldnt fix it and will call back. Any thoughts?
Just been to the marina for a planning meeting for a club cruise to the Florida Keys in April. You coming?
We found a pair of sunglasses belonging to Tom , I think.
Say hello to the family. Now for a cosmo. p.s. Maureen is happy because her sunset picture got into the local rag.

You could try checking the language settings to make sure that they have not been changed to Chinese or similar. Consider it more likely to be a driver (or possibly BIOS) problem so do you have the latest video drivers for the computer.

Provided you have the data then a reformat/reinstall has to be a good idea and if this is a stage too far, then you may want to consider the restore/repair option on XP although once again you will need the data to be safe. Best of luck.

Cruising to Florida Keys in new boat in April sounds an excellent idea, particularly as you have perfected Cosmos. Just need that rich benefactor to come along and make retirement an option.

Pleased that the Bailey boys have acheived fame at last. We'll send a picture of them playing in the snow as an interesting comparison.

Please keep hold of Tom's sunglasses and if you come across his digital camera and a Dido CD (both left in hire car) please let us know.

Re: It\'s very quiet in our house, tonight....

Prob w/computer is that I have to work with it by "feel" as I can't read anything. The characters are not language of any type, just squares, lines, question marks etc etc. I can't get to the restore/repair option which was my first thought, because I can't locate it by guesswork!! I'll keep on playing with it. Turns out I didn't do anything wrong in hot swapping the PCMCIA card, according to the manfr.
Regarding the camera and CD, do want me to check w/car hire co?

Not so easy then.

Have you tried booting in safe mode? Not sure how you get into this with your computer but you will probably need to press one of the function keys [F8] during boot-up.

You could wait for HP to phone back /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Alternatively does this computer have the option of dual hard drives. If so, you could buy new drive, replace existing, install XP on new drive and hopefully solve all of the problems, then add the original drive to download all of the data.

Do you have virus checking software on this computer?

I checked the Thrifty web site and no sign of anything to do with lost property and I assume that it will be in some car cleaners grubby mits. If you want to pursue, this would be appreciated although it sounds as if you have your hands full.
