It's only 25 miles.. (question about dodman point)

I hope the op is doing well if he’s already departed.

I’m slightly confused by the fact that St Anthony’s head at the entrance to Falmouth to the entrance of Fowey is only about 19 miles and he’s quoted 25.
I also agree that even in a Pandora 700 (I know the boat as our daughter has one!) and in the completely benign conditions forecast for today, giving 1.5 miles clearance off Dodman is way OTT. My guess is it will be flat calm and a few cables will be fine.

For a straight line sail from our berth in Mylor to town quay in Fowey, our log consistently reads between 22.7-23.5nm.

I wouldn’t criticise the OP on his planning over the Dodman overfalls either. He’s evidently a little over cautious but has planned well. It’s no Raz de Sein but it’s this type of thinking that keeps boats on the water rather than on the rocks.

It's a bit late to tell the OP, I imagine, but I don't agree there's nothing off The Dodman to be bothered about. And the Hydrographic Office considers there's enough to overprint the charts with relevant symbols:

I know from many years that, in light wind conditions, a lumpy-bumpy sea still kicks up there which can/does toss a small boat about and largely stop progress. People might find it necessary to clip on. Nothing particularly hazardous, but uncomfortable and inconvenient - as the crew of one 2003 Fastnet Race 40' catamaran found when they wandered innocently into The Field in search of better breeze, and found themselves bouncing up and down with no progress for over half-an-hour. It cost them their race, a Class and a Series Win.....
