...although not sure if you can quote Gary Glitter on forums these days :)

Well after a 6 year boatless spell in the wilderness, losing more on cars than I've ever spent on boats, I'm back on the water!

Of course, I may as well be a newby on here again, 'cos I guess many of the old timers from the early noughties have retired to a narrow boat at Braunston or Benidorm or somewhere!

So I've just bought a Princess 286 Riviera, with twin tiny petrols. - memories of the old 27 Countess with twin BMW petrols - here I go again...............

Hey up! You didn't buy in Alcudia then :-)

I'm am infrequent non boat owning lurker on here these days so good to see you back.

You could consider changing the twin petrols for a single diesel. I think if you search the archieve on here and old copies of MBM you may find intereresting features written by a forum memeber who did just that......Ooo....... errr......hang on a minute........Oh no!!!!!! :-)

Can you get one with a working bog this time as well please. I don't want to have to take over the helm while you "improvise" from the bathing platform again.

Good to see you back, where is the boat going to be based?

Hi Martyn, It was a close call, but when I considered whether I could give up the likes of Goole and South Ferriby for Alcudia......... ;)

It's at Burton Waters at the moment, and might keep it there for a month or two, but quite fancy Naburn again. I did look at an old P32 on the Acaster side just opposite the marina. The boat was too old, but they had a nice new pontoon mooring which would be good. No shore power, but lots cheaper. Not sure if there are any spare though.

Welcome back,

I have one of the moorings opposite the marina. PM me if you want contact details of the owner. There were a few spare but not sure for this season. Very peaceful spot and never had any problems (touch wood)!

John.

Yeah, not too difficult to work it out is it?!!

Do you know anything about the boat? It had come from York at the end of 2010 I believe.

What was most impressive about it on first inspection was how good the mouldings and hull still seem to look, and seemingly very little cosmetic blemishes considering its 24 years.

Softer furnishings and most of all nearly every hinge on board are not as youthful looking, but par for the course.

I guess it probably has what most would consider to be the worst engine option ever fitted to a P286, but the price reflected that, and hopefully they'll get by for a while for trolling about on the rivers.

Reading recent posts about the long term reliability of the 1.7 Mercruiser diesel I fitted in my previous B27, I don't think I'll be rushing to follow a similar path with the Princess for the moment!

The good news is that it seems to be a lot easy to buy petrol at the riverside these days (so I'm told) and since my current car has a 95L tank, it shouldn't be too much of a shock when paying for it!

Ha, no wonder the boat looked very clean - a little searching on the forum and I find that Roger (the seller) runs a boat cleaning company!

Funny, a couple of issues I already had on my mind were; will it go through the Glory Hole, and is there actually an Eberspacher unit still installed. I now see from previous posts that Roger was a year ahead of me.

How's the S365 going Roger? Perhaps you can give me a guided tour of the P286 at Burton sometime, and point out a few of its foibles!

The boat is the cleanest one of its age I have seen and well looked after,Roger had problems with the eber but then don't they all:rolleyes:
The Glory hole(do not google that:eek:)is about 9' 5" and it may be worth doing a season in Burton Waters for a pleasant change pm sent
