IT\'S DARK OUT THERE!!

. . but I'd recognise the sound of a jetski anywhere. Yep, hammering into Chi Harbour at 2245 with nothing showing but his ego.

I'm not asking what to do (he was out of range before the shotgun got loaded, besides there are fisherman on the beach) but do you still think that compulsory licence/tax/insurance/qualifications are such a bad idea??

Re: IT\'S DARK OUT THERE!!

I doubt it would make the slightest bit of difference. To be out at that time racing around with no light showing shows the lack of responsibility, so a piece of paper won't change that. How many people drive cars without insurance/licence/tax/mot... etc and that is already law.

Re: IT\'S DARK OUT THERE!!

I don't know how many - enlighten me. But I do know that ashore the law is enforced and thousands of drivers are prosecuted - which is more than can be said about boaters behaving irresponsibly. Que faire?.

Re: IT\'S DARK OUT THERE!!

Numbers don't know exactly, but last year 1 in 10 didn't have insurance! Agree, it is policed and prosecuted far more, but do you think the water police would be out right now patrolling chi harbour? I doubt it somehow....

Re: IT\'S DARK OUT THERE!!

On a similar topic! When there is poor visibility in daylight hours why are'nt lighthouses, beacons lit?Example-last week heavy morning seamist had visibility down to 1-2 cables .Went past the famous Turnberry lighthouse at that distance and could JUST see it.Surely in these conditions they should be lit and the fog horn sounding?Could somebody clarify the regulations for me?

Re: IT\'S DARK OUT THERE!!

Policing includes logging cars without valid tax discs leading to prosecutions for no insurance or driving licence too. You could catch the jet skiers on dry land IF the legislation were in place.

They'd still snort past in the dark of course - but wouldn't greater control be a move towards greater responsibility?

And don't you think it deserves wider debate than just this Forum?
