Its all Jim's fault ..

Wot? No caulking cotton and putty. Not much use to me. There is almost nothing that a bit of cotton and putty won't solve. I do though find it necessary to carry spare Volvo Gearbox 'O' rings for neighbouring gliberfast boats!

I have a good supply of rags and Sikaflex?
This year I am going to get some of the underwater putty for sealing holes.

I am unapologetic in my use of electrics,

No apology required. Had I possessed your skills I might very well have been tempted to go down the same road.

2 things that assisted my decision. Evan Starzinger who has lived aboard many years runs a Raymarine 12v Linear autopilot and no windvane. Many liveaboards are now running electric loos, as it quadruples the holding tank effective size.

I have been an avid reader of Evan's articles in BWS and have noted his change of heart when it comes to electrics/electronics over the years.

However, being a dinosaur at heart, my thinking is more along the lines of the Morgan's Cloud.

One of the main reasons I'm not a fan of electrics/electronics is that they all rely on the same power source: batteries.
Previous boat again: during one particular sporting Channel X-ing, ALL the electrics 'died'.
Stormy - pitch dark - not even nav-lights - somewhere between France and England. Navigation was effectively reduced to 'follow the ferry'.
The reason all the electrics went: the batteries were as dead as a dodo. No warning, no nothing.

May we all live peacefully alongside one another.....

And for many years to come. :encouragement:

I think, given FC's. History he should be made honorary "Master of the Bogs" .

We need a suitable penant for him to fly..
