It is raining in Scotland - again - pictures

Sorry to hear about the rain and the cold Dylan. You have reminded me of my childhood in Scotland and sailing in the rain. I am in Falmouth ( brilliant sunshine) and was about to continue on my journey to the West Coast of Scotland for a trip around places I visited by boat as a boy.
I am now seriously thinking of heading for the Channel Islands (again) instead. Hopefully Nicola will fix the weather by next year.

Yes it IS raining again today. Tell me about it.

Not only am I hoping to sail my boat, I am also trying to build a new house.

"miserable May" was just too windy all month to go sailing.

I finally had a window to go sailing last night. the forecast was good, I had time available and crew available. We drove to the harbour, by which time it was raining hard and cold. We sat a while, agreed sailing was something we did to enjoy. Checked the boat over and went home.

I have been out on the boat just twice this year.

As for the house, the foundations are in. I need to tidy up the site ready to start putting up the timber frame. Trying to do that today and it's just a muddy swamp that you can't so anything with. I also need to lay some drainage in the next week, not much hope of that either.

If something doesn't change soon, this is going to be one of those "summerless" years.

Was it you in Dartmouth, August last year?

Not me - Claymore owners tend to be rather unimaginative when it comes to naming our boats. This accounts for most Claymores being named Claymore. When your 'Forum Name' is Claymore then you end up with Claymore's Claymore Claymore.
Hope that makes sense...

Ah.
It had lots of grey canvas so with the name Claymore put 2 & 2 together and came up with 5 !! :encouragement:

Sorry it's so dismal for you up there, Dylan...but didn't your previous visit lead you to expect such conditions?

I definitely remember you enquiring here about small motor-sailers in the last twelve months...

...and I was encouraged to see that such a stalwart sailing explorer as yourself, recognised that a sheltered (or interior) helm could be as beneficial a feature for long-term cruising in UK waters, as high-pointing or the ability to dry-out.

If the reason for persevering with your present boat is largely financial, I sympathise entirely...but if you needed further proof that the downsides of motor-sailers' design are easily worth putting up with, then long may it rain. (Not down here on Loch Solent, of course.)

Regarding the LM27...seems a nice old boat, very solid-looking and roomy, and they're said to sail well, considering...

...but doesn't that wheel-shelter (which also covers the galley, as far as I can see) have a solid rear bulkhead? So is all cooking effectively al fresco, when the blue tent isn't up?

With apologies to the late, great Douglas Adams...

“And as he sailed on, the rainclouds dragged down the sky after him, for, though he did not know it, Dylan Winter was a Rain God. All he knew was that his sailing days were miserable and he had a succession of lousy holidays. All the clouds knew was that they loved him and wanted to be near him, to cherish him, and to water him.”
