hi-im trying to track down this part described to me by the owner of the fridge (who is in the back of beyond) as thus:

"The fridge filter in question is a Sureflow inline plastic filter, it is used for many other applications and not specifically for the fridge, however it was supplied with it, one end has a 1/2" female hole and thread which screws directly onto the Isoltherm compressor in the raw water cooling system. The other end has a 1/2" spigot for the inlet water pipe. it is simply a bayonett fitting to undo and empty the filter."

local chandlery and marathon (isotherm importers/distributers) think i am mad, although have appreciated my custom immeasurably as i have bought numerous parts which turn out NOT to be this one when they arrive.....the fridge is a type 4201.

i think.

anyone else know what this mythical part might be?!

many thanks!

Sounds like a garden hose style in-line filter, commonly used in raw water cooling systems on some boats, with the hose barb still attached one end, and removed at the other to expose the threaded 1/2" hose connector. Body is either clear or black, and plastic strainer is white?

I reckon there are basically two different versions of Isotherm water-cooled units, those with and those without a dedicated water-circulation pump: you can easily tell them apart, one has thin metallic pipes for cooling water, going to a special metallic through-hull fitting, while the other uses plain water pipes and has a conspicuous electric pump at the side of the compressor.

I have a pumped-water-cooled Isotherm 4201 and the filter is a common in-line mesh filter, inserted on the inlet pipe somewhere between the inlet seacock and the water pump which is part of the refrigeration unit.

I would assume that if you have the same, you could just place a conventional filter along the inlet pipe.

I have the same fridge and had a similar problem trying to get a spare filter.

Your man is right it is a standard sureflow part as seen on many sureflow pumps, and his discription of it is bang on.

They break easily when taking apart for cleaning so get two or three new ones. (cheapish)

Got mine from Mailspeed marine - just got to get someone on the other end of the line that knows what your on about.

I am at the moment trying to source a new screw in anode for my fridge which is also rather trying.

I'd be interested to know how you get on with the anode search - I have the same problem. Where does the anode go? Is it on the upright of the Y-shaped water inlet where the filter fits? The bolt that fits there is corroded on in mine - I don't want to risk damaging it by forcing it off if it's the wrong place.

Agree about the uselessness of the agents...
