Isopropyl alcohol vs Acetone for cleaning grp

The best thing for cleaning stains and yellowing on white GRP is oxalic acid. It's in lots of proprietary cleaners but the cheapest way is to buy oxalic acid crystals on eBay and dilute 100g to 1 litre warm water. Gel oxalic acid cleaners are good because it stays on longer. I think acetone may affect the gel and underlying resin on a molecular level. Good luck.

Yep, that's what I use, brilliant for shifting yellow stains along the waterline and also clearing away rust stains. Ideally mixed up as a fairly strong solution with a bit of washing up liquid to help it "wet" the surface. Some recommend adding a spot of wallpaper paste to help it cling to any vertical surfaces.
Concentration etc not critical but wear safety glasses and gloves - it's nasty stuff and causes severe burns. Great cleaner though, and cheap.

For general cleaning of GRP and other hard surfaces (not necessarily degreasing) this is quite good,

On AMC's Coppercoat preparation instructions for GRP Hulls;

"Under no circumstances clean the hull with any solvents or oil-based products (such as Acetone)"

I think that there is a suggestion that it leaves a residue?
