Hi all, once we have sold existing boat & bought larger one, we are looking to berth on the Island.
Any suggestions for the best 24hr access marinas, & any other advice / local knowledge ?
Thanks very much.

I would suggest East Cowes as its more sheltered there than than Yacht Haven and Shepards, also worth looking at Island Harbour but that stightly restricted at low tide and there's a lock and I guess that's what you wish to avoid, East Cowes also easy to get to from ferry

East Cowes have a recommend a friend scheme where both parties get a discount on their berthing fees.
So, Mate, as a berth holder I'm happy to recommend East Cowes

edit.. no connection :nonchalance:

The only other 24 hr access harbour on the IOW is Yarmouth, just as long as you berth the Solent side of the Yar bridge.

Sheperds/yacht haven very hard to get permanent berth especially for bigger boats. They're both very bumpy in easterlies, that £7 million breakwater does sod all. Yarmouth has long waiting list I believe and priority is given to locals so not much chance of getting there. So that only leaves East Cowes. If you use the red jet you can get a water taxi to meet you and deliver you to your boat.

I'm surprised there's a waiting list at Yarmouth, they're advertising some pretty favorable rates (at first glance anyway). I was warned, and it has come true, that if you move to the Island you'll use your boat a lot less frequently so important, in my opinion, to chose a marina you'll feel happy just chillin out

According to their website a permanent mooring is only available if you live within 7 miles of the parish church.
They also offer temporary long term moorings further into their listings but their are extensive terms and conditions

Rafiki is in Yarmouth right now. They are advertising moorings for summer and winter. Quite a choice. It is more exposed than East Cowes, particularly to Northerlies and Westerlies. East Cowes is a very nice marina, and you benefit from the Dean and Reddyhof package. Both have good ferry access from the mainland.

I never saw that but if you look at Flexible mooring solution (their speak btw) they have long term visitor mooring (LTV), it's these they are advertising in the office/facilities block.

In Yarmouth there is also the River Yar boatyard, not a marina, but a lovely spot.

Living within 7 miles of the church tower is a requirement for a residents berth in Yarmouth, but, as has been said, there is the option of long term visitors.

Nice spot but only just over 3m air clearance to the bridge. I have no idea how often they swing it.

Another recommendation for east cowes, we popped in 4 years + ago only originally going to leave boat for winter, to save taking back to the east coast, still there , marine staff great , nice pub in marine , ease of access to Solent ,no locks and no restrictions of tide, which when travelling any distance to our boat the last thing I want is to be stuck in the marine on a sunny day because I forgot to check tides,
And not forgetting the cost to berth, we pay similar to east coast ,

On that basis see you there as soon as Osmotech finish with new boat, probably early next year. :D

We used to take the kids there when they were little, pre illness & boat days, indeed the weather was better & we are looking forward to leaving the dogs with the kids & doing everything we couldn't back then because of both !
Will send pm, thanks.
