hi folks, many years ago we sailed from the source of the thames down to estuary and then down medway till maidstone.

on route we slept in a sailing clubhouse (where ???) which was on an island. sorry for being vague. but would anyone know of a sailing club on an island down the thames.

it was 1988 when i was there, i'm sure it would still be there (nice bar)

any ideas welcome
thanks alot

Could it have been Eel Pie Island?

Really would help if you cold be a little less vague about which stretch of the river !
As someone else has already suggested, Eel Pie Island is a definite possibility but I have a feeling you may be talking about Ravens Ait just above Kingston which has had a chequered history but was, I think, some years ago home to a sailing club and was the home of TS Neptune, a sea cadet HQ.

In recent years it was a corporate events and wedding venue but went bust a year or two ago and is about to be relaunched in the coming weeks.

Hampton Sailing Club

I think that you might be referring to Hampton Sailing Club which is based on its own island, near to Garrick's Temple, just upstream of Hampton Court Palace.
