i think you should learn how to set sails.sluggish at all points of sailing,i don,t think so.last trip i did, guadeloupe to antigua, average speed 7.5knots with 18 knots true wind on a reach.incidently we managed 6.5 knots windwards.

A shoe box will sail at a reasonable speed on a reach in 18kts true and 6.5kts 'to windward' is not very good for a boat of this size with a long waterline even IF that 6.5kts were actually 'to windward' and not what others might tactfully call a close reach. We have a 41 footer and our speed upwind is 7kts in much less wind than 18kts but more importantly at 28 degs to apparent wind and tacking through 80 degs or better. If we sail at an IP's wind angle 'upwind' we would be doing over 7.5kts and this is on a smaller boat. Then there are the light wind days....
Not by any means trying to blast someone's pride and joy because evey boat is a compromise and you pick the one that best suits you. However performance is never going to be the main selling point of an IP, even by comparison to other pure cruisers.
