Island hopping Caribbean

Fly the Q [ yellow ] flag on entry to harbor.

After obtaining customs and immigration clearance replace Q flag with appropriate country courtesy flag.

In 14 years of Caribbean cruising the only island I have been challenged over this was Trinidad [ Anchoring in Scotland bay. ]

If you fail to display a courtesy flag you may be approached by a boat boy offering to sell you one and applying some gentle persuasion.

I don't think that the OP is suggesting that it should be flown continuously but simply that it should be lowered and ready to fly. However, as I said in #2, unless you have two halyards I'm not sure how this can be achieved.

One of the pleasant things about preparing a boat in Europe to go on a Caribbean cruise is getting loadsa courtesy flags for exotic destinations.

Tip. The cheapest ones are in Spain. :encouragement:

That's what we did basically the boat is in territorial waters only after it has cleared in.

Might find cheaper down the island market after checking in, bandanna of local flag with couple minutes sewing - worked most places from memory anyway and dead cheap

Or buying a flag of the country you are visiting is often considerably cheaper in a local market compared to a chandler. It may not last as long though.

As to sewing your own. Well Martinique is no problem but Dominica will test your skills.
