In 14 years of Caribbean cruising the only island I have been challenged over this was Trinidad [ Anchoring in Scotland bay. ]

If you fail to display a courtesy flag you may be approached by a boat boy offering to sell you one and applying some gentle persuasion.

Suit yourself: there is no regulatory reason either way. But it's not as though new countries arrive with the frequency of tube stations.

Believe it to be bad form (and against the regs) to keep the Q flag up once you have checked into a country.

I don't think that the OP is suggesting that it should be flown continuously but simply that it should be lowered and ready to fly. However, as I said in #2, unless you have two halyards I'm not sure how this can be achieved.

That's what we did basically the boat is in territorial waters only after it has cleared in.

I think you may be taking the expression "island hopping" a little too literally. Perhaps you were thinking of flying boats?

Or buying a flag of the country you are visiting is often considerably cheaper in a local market compared to a chandler. It may not last as long though.

As to sewing your own. Well Martinique is no problem but Dominica will test your skills.

As it will be a charter, I expect the flags to be on board. It does sound a pain when the islands are close together. Guadeoupe - Antigua e.g. If we shuttle between the two, do we need to have clearance each time?
