Island Harbour Marina staff

I all the times we have been there they have been great, and if there are 2 or 3 of them in the lock always up for a laugh.. great marina and great staff...

My only experience with Island Harbour, I phoned them and was told lock opens 6:00pm, fine, then told we knock off at 6:00pm. Great! Not been near the place since. Sems very second rate to me /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

We stayed there Saturday night for the first time. We entered on freeflow were given a berth between two fabulous Huntsmans and Bernard was very, very helpful. Signed up as a member of the VMCA at once /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It's a lovely spot and quite remote. The "Bistro" is the only place to eat, and upon enquiring at 3:45 on Saturday afternoon were told it was fully booked from 6:30 until 11:00pm. Great, two hungry kids to feed and not a lot on-board. I later found out that the Bistro owner has, well, a bit of a reputation.... Deciding we'd leave the Folly until Sunday lunch the marina staff said Newport was about 20-25 minute walk along the river and the first eatery you got to was quite good. It was a nice walk and the Medina Quay is a bit like a Harvester only nicer (not hard I know) but the service was so sllloooooowww the kids were on the point of mutiny. Anyhow, the ever helpful Bernard had said we could leave on Sunday pretty much whenever we wanted to, i.e. not the 'though shalt leave by 12:00 or we'll cut your mooring lines' approach that most places have. So, after a lazy lunch at the Folly (half a mile downstream) we eventually left about 3:30pm for the run home. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we'll go there again, but only when the sun is shining.

Yeah the Bistro attitude sucks...shame it could be brilliant...we really could do with a better kids alternative...bah can't have it all...but the Marina guys are great...year signed up member of the VMCA too /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sorry about that - we had booked for something like 30 people !

We were the noisy crowd drinking on the Broom45 on Saturday, and then paddling around the marina like idiots in our blindfold rowing race on Sunday !

The electrickery went off for about 90 minutes so we didnt get to eat in there either.

In particular, Bernard, are brilliant, helpful and just nice people. Can't recommend them highly enough! Even though we had a powercut the moment we went into the lock!

[/ QUOTE ]He got a little 'abrupt' with me questioning the time that free flow was due. He announced it would be 2pm, but it was 2.15 at the time. I asked if he meant UT - he then gave us a lesson in the effects of very high air pressure on the water level in the river!

All worked out fine in the end though!

We were berthed on B pontoon facing A. Looked like a good party you were having there... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I'd have come said hello had I known it was a fellow forumite. Looks like you did us a favour on the food front as we did get fed at Medina Quay, eventually.

We saw you guys doing the blindfold rowing race too.... looked like heaps of fun.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
