Island Harbour, IOW

Hi @greg, yes the accommodation is a bit different, we are coming from a C18 farmhouse with an acre and workshops:eek: but are considering something quite different. The upside is it is affordable waterfront living with a boat berthed by your patio doors which would be a great chance to stick our toe in the water, quite literally, of a more boat oriented life.

A compromise would be boat size, so rather than the larger trawler/broom/flybridge boats we were looking at on my other thread, we might start with a sub 10m Merry Fisher/NC9 type and spend a couple of year more local rather than venturing further abroad.

Would be a good way to get us lots more hours at the helm as we start our "hard boat" journey.....

My biggest challenge is trying to find a commercial unit/storage for all my workshop contents:rolleyes:

Cheers,

TC

Sounds like a plan. Don’t get me wrong, I see the attraction and in many ways quite fancy it myself. The couple we bought the Hardy from not only had a larger mooring but they had both sides of the pontoon! They had the mobo one side and a yacht the other side - as people who sail as well we would love to have that set up!

How big does the storage need to be?

Looking for 1000 - 1500 sqft minimum, dry & secure to hold a combination of domestic and my workshop/projects. Plus will probably move my office in and work from there part time as well.

Ideal location is between Alresford and M27 north of the river as our temp home will be with my son who lives that way, or potentially Hythe area if we ended up there (see other thread I have just started :))

Any suggestions/advice gratefully received - as we have 8 weeks to move and due to a delayed exchange have only just been able to start the trawl of agents etc in the area.

Oh, and did I mention its lockdown:eek:

Cheers,

TC

Yes, a bit like the boat search we seem to have covered every option in our deliberations and ended up somewhere quite different to where we started:D.

Whilst we will defo find terraced and small a different challenge (I haven't been in anything other than a detached house for 32 years!) I think the trades of waterside and boat access may be worth it.

We also have a view that we can try it for a couple of years and if it isn't for us its easy enough to move on. Our sale proceeds will earn zippo in the bank so in some ways it "free" to experiment - and as many on here say "you only live once so give it a go!"

Cheers

TC
