couldn't find a topic on this so here goes......

I have an Simrad IS20 Wind instrument that looks like water has go in at some point (lots of condensation on the glass). Its finally packed up. Given that this is a repair by replacement item I though I would have a go at opening it up and seeing what the issue is. Its would be going in the bin in any case so nothing to loose.

Has anyone else had a go and is it, in fact possible, or is it totally sealed?

I have been looking to replace. The IS20 wind has all the functionality I need but is there an alternative that is solid state so no mechanicals to worry about? I like the analogue style display though.

I changed my IS20 wind display for an IS40 multi display when the storms of 2014 took the masthead instruments off. It was "cheaper" to replace the set rather than just the masthead. Reckon it is really first rate. Suggestion that B&G is more tuned to sailing?? That said I can't see the difference in the 2 displays/firmware . In any case they both work with the original masthead instrument and cabling so no need to replace the whole lot unless you get a good deal.
