Army surplus greatcoat, wellingtons, a couple of pullovers your mum knitted, and that Harris tweed flat cap you inherited from your uncle (substitute a sou-wester in extremis).

In fair weather, trousers and shirt that have progressed through the Sunday best and work phases of their life, but not yet been relegated to boat painting/maintenace, plus tie and aforementioned flat cap.

According to legend, and the lady herself, one of the leading crews in the Yarmouth XOD fleet used to wear just a red bikini whenever the weather permitted, for the purposes of distracting the opposition. This in the days when gentlemen sailed their boats in a reefer jacket. That was X110, Betox. My wife made the mistake of looking up that name on the internet, and the top hit was urban dictionary. Some things cannot be unseen, even when face to face with the dear lady herself, aged mid 80s.

YouTube vids suggests they don't, but then again neither do they tend to sail in the muddy creeks and cold, wet weather I am more familiar with!

Perhaps the bikini girls on YouTube vids have the right idea, and our fellow (mostly male) forumites should be wearing mankinis!
