It doesn't matter how quickly he rowed - That catamaran is a rocket... almost the same performance as an Anderson 22!
Surely the best part of being a cat with buggerall under the water is that he could have got a lot closer in to the jetty, minimising the amount of rowing required. Or is there some kind of regulation of the yacht waiting area? Seemed like they had a long way to row...

I'm not clear from reading the rules, why the one left on board the boat can't sail as close as practical (allowing for other boats, the exclusion zone etc) and pick them up from a point close in.. There'd also be a good start with boat being "under way".
