Is this EPIRB - The way to go?

That looks interesting, any idea how big it really is?

Is the way forward two personal epirbs to be carried at all times at sea or a ships unit? (two of us sailing)

I wish I had not bunged the RDF away, it could have been a good MoB system too.

Not really considered these until I read the MAIB Ouzo report. I suspect a lot of folks will now be interested.

I've not done any comparisons but the price seems reasonable to me (£299.00 [£351.33 Incl VAT]).

Which type of EPIRB is best, cost excepted, for a boat doing cross channel rather than blue water cruising, where you are never far from VHF range of one shore or the other: PLB or standard EPIRB, it strikes me that if you had time to set off an EPIRB you could push the distress button on your DCS VHF and give rescuers your ID and position. If like the Ouzo you were suddenly overwhelmed and found yourself in the water perhaps a PLB on the person would be better. We have never carried an EPIRB before but the thought of the Ouzo victims beiong in the water for hours is sobering: plenty of time to ponder whether £300-400 in your bank account might be better in a PLB around your neck!!!

It doesn't say how long the batteries last once it starts to transmit. 24hrs, 48hrs or ???
For how many years can you keep the device and still have the full transmit time? All batteries self discharge at a greater or lesser rate.
