Much to my surprise, one of the very first boats I saw in Venice last week was something that looked very like my old 80s Carver (see my avatar)

Is it? Carvers of that era were made in the US. Sturdy, built like a tank in fact, but not exactly an ocean going boat. How did that get all the way to Venice? Come to that, how did mine get to PHYB (which is what it says on the transom)? Always been curious about that. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

With global warming, one day everywhere will look like this!

You have to get used to the millions of tourists and £1/Euro /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif , but it is a magical place, and every boater would find it fascinating. Those buildings are hundreds of years old. Gawdknows how they manage to stay up! There's a few more pics in the Health and Safety thread.

I'd be very interested to hear from any other 1980s Carver owners... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I've been busy rebuilding my interior /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif and I'm now looking forward to the plumbing... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'd be ok - I live on the third floor!

But it's not all that funny for those folk living in Norfolk where a local councilor is floating the idea of flooding their villages rather than re-build the sea defenses. Part of his argument is that in the long run nothing can save them. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Still, I hope they get a reprieve.

When I lived in Sheffield I visited a reservoir (the one they shot the Dam Busters on) that had a flooded village. It was a drought, the water had dropped, and a few of the buildings emerged. Spooky.
