Once you put pressure (pull) on that rope, good luck (imagine pulling a 10ton vessel) releasing the knot. The person in this video didn't put any 'pull' on the rope. Another viral video wannabe (not you, the author of the video!)

Bowline has never let me down in these situations... always been able to release.

A non existent knot in sailing which is used a lot in climbing is the simple overhand knot with a decent tail for joining two ropes. Simple, quick, strong, easy to undo. What's knot to like?
Used commonly throughout Europe for joing two ropes together for abseiling but also for other things too.

The Yanks like to call it the European Suicide knot but i wouldn't use any other.

I was always a big fan of the bowline but my lifeboat crew training and subsequent experience taught me that a round turn and two half hitches is way easier to open under load.

Not a Truckers' hitch as that allows you to adjust the length post tying, it's just an ordinary Highwayman's Hitch
