Is this a resistor?

This is a 3V battery that was connected to a bulb, but the live goes from battery to switch and then through the green thing (labelled 5A preceded by a large "L" encompassing an "F").

What is the green thing - not like a resistor I've seen before.

This came from an old nautical item.

It's a pico fuse. 5A, at a guess.

It would be nice to think so. However, I had seen a fuse like that before (can't remember where) and did a bit of Google Image Searching to refresh my memory. I'm very glad to have helped, though.
