Hi,

Please first excuse my ignorance but I am looking at buying a boat, but know nothing much about them yet, so before I buy I am on this steep learning curve, doing plenty of research and asking questions, some of which may appear to those in the know, stupid questions, like this.

I have seen an ad for a 2001 24' Grp planing cruiser with a mercruiser 5.7l thunderbolt bravo 3 x diesel out drive.

I have googles the Mercruiser and cannot see that it is a diesel. Could this be a diesel, or is the ad worded wrong?

Thanks Steve

The 'Diesel' bit probably refers to the Bravo 3 X drive, which had higher torque rating to cope with diesel engines.
It is seen by some (especially in the US) as a performance upgrade.
5.7l Mercruiser is definitly V8 petrol

A leg from a diesel will be no good with a petrol engine. The gearing will be wrong for the higher revving petrol engine.

It might pay to be very careful .... I've seen fake ads before where the 'seller' hasn't got a clue about the thing he's doing the scam with.

Good point, but I think you have to treat everything to do with boat buying with extreme care, its not like buying a car, although if you know what to look out for, what questions to ask you stand a chance of buying from a genuine seller.
