Ok, another weird post:
I kept the ensign from my old yacht as a keepsake and was going to turn it into cushions for the saloon of the new boat.
This will involve cutting the ensign in two then putting backs and zips in.

My question is ; is this in any way a bad thing to do from the point of superstition or from the point of defacing a flag?

All opinions gratefully received before I get the pinking shears out.

Don't dwell on it

Americans might get quite worked up about it if it were one of their flags, but I think in this country we care more about what flags stand for than the actual piece of fabric itself. As long as you're not deliberately debasing it (which you're not) I can't see any reasonable person being upset.

What a good idea. I have a red one and a defaced blue one that are going to the USA as mementos since our boat over there has one of those starry stripey things on it as a US Documented vessel. A pair of ensign cushions nice one, now just what do I do with the two ensign staffs?

Are you seriously asking for suggestions?
