Is there any real reason to choose a Moody 29 over a Sadler 29?

That's what I meant. He wants bilge keel boats specifically, so I assume he is not looking so much at these boats for their pointing ability.

Cheers

See post#5. OP seems more interested in space than sailing performance. If that is correct, many of the comments posted by others are of little value in helping him make his choice.

Thanks everyone for all input, suggestions, recommendations and comments.

Yes .... I really do need more room down below for socials etc .... with additional space for more than three adults over an extended weekend .... plus better sailing ability (the Boat ... no Moi ... :p ) on 'all-points' as I do-not enjoy motoring / motor -sailing as opposed to actually sailing..... & as Seajet has mentioned on a number of occasions ... with something akin to Newbridge Voyagers & the back of a Hercules .... :D

Spaceship Moody. Our 33 has contained me, wife, her shoes and all our other worldly possessions since 1997. Has crossed oceans a fair bit too. Like.

I thought that was exactly what I was saying

Just reinforcing the point. All three of the main contenders will meet the requirements and be more suitable than his current boat. All were aimed at the same market sector when new, although with slightly different emphasis on the performance accommodation trade off. Not surprising that they appear on the same short list now, and choice now is the one the buyer feels most comfortable with. Plus of course the added challenge of finding one in good condition within budget.

Just wondering why the need for bilge keel John? If you really want something that sails well how about a first 29?

I thought something like that too. Up there there isn't much need for bilge keels, or should I say shallow draught. the rocks don't move and are close to shore.

Do you want bilge keels for shallow draught or to dry out?

Why Bilge Keels you ask?

Well .... all the hassle, stress & worry with numerous events and requirements are removed from the equation.... eg (we have a 'grid' :) ) it's less hassle all round putting her on the 'grid' almost anytime for inspections, hull-vv changes, quick scrub, antifoul, etc.... :D

+ (apparently) there are many beautiful & sheltered places you have access to with a twin-keel as opposed to a fin .... just as long as some aquadynamics in design have been applied ... & they're not just fore & aft slabs.

++ just lift & place on blocks ... no requirement for a cradle & all the work in assembling, disassembling, moving & maintenance of. :encouragement:
