Is there a minimum age to be solely in control of a sports/power boat?

Didn't realise there are two sets of general rules, one for power and another for sail.

I can remember driving a brand new power boat with 2 7ltr? Ford galaxy engines flat out 30-40 knots through the old Rhu Gareloch narrows ( before they took half the spit away) just before it went south to do Cowes to Torquay race . I had just left school and would have been 14-15. As I can still remember just how quickly the turns came it must have been quite a ride I think we had just come back from the Esso depot at Bowling none of this carrying Jerry can lark!
