OK, so it wont be without compromise of course, but with a hull length of 35ft (probably 37ft overall with swim platform) it would (with some out of the box thinking) be possible to fit in twin double cabins and a forward cabin while retaining the saloon.

You would only have one bog/shower and relatively small galley but the two aft cabins would still make 5ft wide doubles and be useful for kids - especially if you have two of different sexes.

Or are we moboers a solitary lot who prefer to go away on our own and therefor the demand is bigger and bigger twin cabins?

With increased free board and beam that modern hull design allows for, I think a good design could be made.

But would it sell?

There is, Nordwest 39 is about a 36 boat plus swim platform plus overhanging beak for the anchor.

Its big brother the 42 is the same layout but bigger and with a second bog.

I went on a 47ft Fairline last week that is only two cabins I despair.

I was looking for a three cabin boat for my family and the youngest of which is 6ft 3 and i was looking at 45 to 55ft boats where the third cabin was just 6ft, I dont like sleeping in a 6ft bed and im only 5ft 11.

The only boats i found with good bed lengths were the Nordwest and Aquastar and I bought the latter.

I agree there is a gap for a 35 to 40ft three cabin family boat which only needs one bog.

I can sort of see the point, if the target market is into economy class ferries.

It could work, if the cabins weren't too pokey/claustrophobic, somehow.

dv.

Not sure losing space elsewhere is worth the extra cabin, after all you only sleep in them. If the kids are at the age of not wanting to sleep in the same cabin it's not going to be much longer before they don't want to go boating on a regular basis anyway.

Converting the dinette works well for us as a third cabin.

in Italy any used boat over 45 with only 2 cabins suffers big selling pressure and is usually receives heavy discount to sell
over 50 feet three cabins have to be there
I think it is more a British thing for big 2 cabins whatever the size....
those 52 Squadrons with 2 cabins have been always heavily discounted for this reason anywhere in the med...
the same story applies to the Sunseeker 56 Predator

The Nordwest 37 is even nearer the mark and it's available as flybridge, Coupe, Sport and SportsTop. It's in the May issue of MBM.

The Nordwest 370 Coupe and Flybridge is available with 3 cabins
it is not so for the latest introduced 370 Sports and Sportstop so far, which have a similar layout to all sports cruisers in this size. Lovely boat none the less and is also available with IPS

I dont doubt there are plenty happy with their twin cab boats.

Its not just kids, I have been away with two mates who dont want to cuddle up in a double /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Not for everyone, but I imaginee there is a bigger market than there are boats

The new Aquador 33 has the twin double arrangement that you mention, but a convertible saloon in the bow:

Hey, like the look of this, what a great set up. To be honest I normally much prefer the Aquador C (cabin) range with their walkaround deck... but this is a super layout for a 33 footer!!!

Unless you hail from Middle earth ........No

Cannot under stand for the life of me the Med based obsession with squeezing in as many hutch sized compartments as possible.
Even chickens have laws to protect them from overcrowding.

Bravo to the 1 x decent owners bedroom/bog n shower ,an uncomfortable as hell endure for one night only dinette and the rest devoted to living space with lots of windows to wave your guest goodbye as they leave at the end of the day.

well i'd interested
i think windy boras had 3 cabin option
ive got 2 kids , boy and girl, with 6 years between them and sometimes a bit of space between them would be most welcome
i am sure the sc35 could be made with 3 cabin layout as you suggest

I sort of have one.

My stairs are to port. At the bottom of stairs you are facing starboard and the heads. So to your left is the saloon and a forward double which converts to an additional saloon.

To your right or looking towards the stern there is a door in the centre of the boat, this gives access to the rear berths. A double on each side. They are quit generous in width but a bit low in sitting up room.

Usually only the pair of us and our youngest. So we dump our bags and stuff on one berth and our youngest has enough space in his double for all his toys etc.

Suits us

Cheers

D

Windy Bora is 2 cabins aft with 2 heads with a vee shaped saloon which transforms to a double berth located forward

it is still really a 2 cabin boat, but somehow when you transform the berth it kinda becomes a more friendly double berth then a central located double berth converted c-shaped saloon

Will you intend to design in a crew's quarter too? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Just kidding, but I see the need but you just dont have the space in a 30 something boat. You really need 50' to do it well.
