Is ther a way to stop (or reduce) the noise from my fenders?

I read this thread and laughed.

Not because of the argy bargy about who best knows how to tie a boat to a pontoon, but because the noise drives me mad too.

We decided to have a few days on the boat over New Year and that squeaking sound has driven me to distraction. Been out there in the night in my undies at one point. Soon came in though!

On my boat, it seem to come from the rubbing that occurs as the line to the fender passes over the side deck/ top of the hull side. It seems worse as the lines attached to my fenders, are being really stretched against the side of the hull because the boat is bobbing up and down and trapping the fenders against the pontoon.

I'm not sure about a solution but it seems worse now with the cheap and cheerful white nylon lines that my wife bought (to spruce up the fenders!?).
And since the boat hasn't been washed for a month or two.

I think that I shall experiment over the coming months with different fender lines and maybe a bit of boat polish on the offending areas.

Cheers

In my experience, washing up liquid provides the best and cheapest solution. Yes, it pollutes the water (I once got terrible stick in Skopelos Harbour for dissipating a small diesel spill with some Fairy Liquid) but maybe try using something like Ecover? :)
