Is the wind always from ahead?

Why did it blow and rain this weekend? The Cruising Association Cowes BBQ! Having a boat with a greenhouse/conservatory we had no excuse not to go and also had paid for 4 tickets but SWMBO and youngest daughter stayed behind, something to do with focusing on maths GSCE this week, why you can`t do that underway I don`t know, elder daughter came and wrote up uni biology practical aboard!

We had paid for 4 but only 2 crew so had some drinking to do to recoup our investment.

Anyway we bashed into a near gale from the west to get to Cowes, so as to get there in time for cocktails with the hope of a good sail back!

What happens the next day, an easterly near gale!

One year it will be easterly there and westerly back!

We actually had to break out our full waterproofs so we could peer out from the wheelhouse to spot the sunsail boats still racing in a hailstorm!

Must replace those windscreen wipers: do Halfords fit them on boats?

Anyway, if the wind is from ahead, it's easier to duck under the sprayhood to avoid the rain & spray. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Two weekends ago I couldn't believe my luck - downwind to my destination on Saturday and downwind home the next day. This proves the East Coast is better than the Solent!!

Ahhh but a couple of weeks or so ago, I had a nice little run south down Chi harbour, ony to hit a hole in the wind and spot other boats also running towards the hold but in the other direction - north. Then of course the weather changed & it's been blowing &/or pi..ing down since.

Only consolation is that next weekend will be crap too so I won't get boat pangs at SWMBO's cousin's wedding.
