Is swmbo right?

Our toy does 80mph with outboard but burns shed loads of fuel but she wants inbd. engine.
Would a big turbo diesel be any better to get that sort of speed?

My car has an inboard engine and goes faster than that. Or were you refering to a some sort of speedboat ?

After you've bought the engine and made the necessary changes to the boat I'll doubt you would ever reclaim your expenses with more fuel efficiency.

Whats a yachtie doing zooming along at 80mph for? I thought you lot hated speed and motors! I heard yachtmen saying, I was really cracking along today, nearly 5 knots!!

are you making life too complicated for yourself and SWMBO and offspring ?

If the boat was designed for an outboard, it is going to cost a fortune to convert to an inboard diesel (shafts, legs, water jet or whatever).

Flog the boat (you'll get more than you told us you paid for it as it's tidied up and got some decent stickers on !), and then look for another boat with an already installed inboard motor. (Have you considered a water -jet ? The manoeuverability might well suit your other piloting experience, and they are really rapid)
