Is international paints " super cleaner" just a branded Acetone? I just want to clean GRP before applying primocon and don't think I can get this stuff locally.

I’ve never used manufacturers’ specialist cleaners - for better or worse…?!

My guess is that it’s less aggressive than pure acetone. That is typical of ‘panel wipe’ prep solvent.

We were using acetone for paint prep but a) it got to expensive (doubled since 2019) and b) some people worry it risks some form of solvent contamination/entrapment.

Switched to generic panel prep solvent from automotive paint shops. It’s maybe 60% the price of acetone. It doesn’t seem as aggressive (they don’t say what’s in it).

You could use isopropyl alcohol as a milder alternative to acetone?

To add, IMHO, proper cleaning and degreasing (with an alkaline degreaser and water) is most important. Any solvent should only be needed for a last-minute, light, wipe down or for areas you suspect might be contaminated.

No .
It does not seem to be solvent based at all
It appears to be a water based degreaser..

Its not propanol either.

If you don't want mess up the job use what the coating manufacturers recommend

If I could get it I would. Doesn't seem to be in the local port hardware store where I got the primer and antifoul. Hence the question about alternatives.

I use Screwfix own 'Heavy Duty Degreaser'. It's a concentrate alkaline degreaser and that is what some manufacturers' TDS's (e.g. Jotun) recommend. It's a everyday workshop sundry, so no global/recognisable brands come to mind.

You have to accept something like this is not specifically for paint. Dilute it as specified and never use it neat (or not without copious rinsing after).

You may be safer asking for a degreaser (now you that's what this is) in a local paint shop?
