Is my Tacktick wind loosing signal?

We've got a three year old unit and love it. But toward the end of summer and through the autumn we got a strange problem. Suddenly the display stopped showing real time and froze at a given wind direction and showed just two dashes for the wind speed. Turning it off and waiting for a bit got it going but it would rarely last more than two hours - then leave it for a while and it works straight away. It's not the display because that runs on 12v; is it the battery in the masthead unit not charging? Could its mini solar be covered in dirt? A mast lowering and raising is £300 so I need to find a fix that is a bit more cost effective!

We have had TackTick for about 7 years, and just occasionally had the same problem. usually switching off and on again sorts it, but sometimes have had to turn off the Hull transmitter and restart that as well. If you just have the stand alone wind system that won't be relevant though.

Our club gardener is quite handy @ mast work & is related to the local gas man too :encouragement:

Had the same problem with ours (stand alone).
Unit sent back to TackTick twice. Once the masthead battery was replaced, other time the display firmware was updated.
Problem never went completely away - if anything, the problem got worse.
Gave up and sold it.
Now got a conventional/wired unit (Furuno IS50). Have yet to fault it.

I have to say I fell for their claim that wires cause most problems. Wish I'd fitted a Raymarine, I can mend wires, I can't mend wireless.

+1. Had loads of issues with mine. However, when the solar cell on my wind instrument packed up I got a 'Low bat' message on the cockpit screen.

Absolutely hate ours but find tbe problem of losing signal can be fixed by moving the display to the bows where it regains contact until it loses it again a few hours later. Now it has lost one of the quadrants and is scheduled to be destroyed by vigorous hammer blows.

Have you tried looking up the "health" screen on your display setup section? This may tell you whether it is a transponder or a display problem.
