The warning buzzer on my VP MD 2020 instrument panel does not buzz, even when test toggle switch is used. Are these known to have a short life span, it has very little weather protection.

It's part of a pretty complex forest of diodes. It could be many things I suspect

Testing the buzzer directly I suppose is the way forward .. check that power is applied to it when the test switch is pushed

My experience is that the VP electronic alarm unit is woefully unreliable - and expensive. List 362 Euros. http://www.marinepartseurope.com/en/volvo-penta-873737-electronic-unit.aspx
You may be luckier than me. I tested mine yesterday because the temp light and the buzzer don't work - as I feared the buzzer being cheap and simple was fine when tested with 12V, it's the encapsulated electronic unit that has failed.
Just checked - Keypart £174.

Thanks for the advice, I ordered a new buzzer today, last time it worked it was woefully quiet and will try that as first step, can't get to boat at the moment due to broken collar bone!
