Is my alternator to battery charger now redundant?

Ah, experts! Two doable options! I will have a think about this. I have always liked things simple so my thinking is just to do away with the Sterling box, but on the other hand with a week or two cruising it might be better to have a better charging option.

Many thanks for the inputs.

The wiring on my Yanmar engine was similar, so I just disconnected the link between the alternator and the starter and fed the alternator output to the Sterling box. I have kept the link wire , just in case the Sterling box ever failed. That initial wiring layout was set up so that they only had to run one heavy duty cable form the battery to the starter and alternator. Personally I have found the Sterling unit good, as we tend to not motor for long periods between anchorages.
