I have been unable to link into the land based AIS display for some time, Is Marine Traffic internet AIS dead or have I just used up a free trial period or what? I am signed in it says but it displays nothing not even the local area map I usually look at and which my link opens it at. I also have an APP for it on my phone which does open the map display but that too shows no targets at all,

If you are running Adblocker try switching to Adblocker Plus. Solved the same problem for me on the PC. The app on the iPad still works fine.

In a similar vein I don't understand why the MarineTraffic reports doesn't agree with reality. I for example am currently in Sutton Harbour in Plymouth and can see 6 targets on my AIS transceiver whereas Marine Traffic only shows 2. Does anyone know why this is the case? Does the marine traffic app not receive all signals? I have all vessels selected to receive on my marinetraffic app.

I do have Adblock plus on the PC , I just tried disabling it and that made no difference though. I see the map on my phone but no vessels . Has the world ended or does the USA not exist anymore??

Well now I really am confused because it works on SWMBO's laptop with IE11 and Win7 but not on my old (now boat ) one with IE9/vista but does work with Chrome except Chrome still has remnants of a bit of adware trash called vosteran search on it I thought I had removed/cleared ( see separate thread in lounge)

Maybe it is a browser problem I have Explorer 11 on the machine I use now with win 8.1

Quite possible for this to happen. I'm assuming that your antenna is in the marina and one used by Marine Traffic may be miles away. Missing targets could be hidden behind a hill, building etc. and therefore won't show up. I think that AndyMs station (1038) based near Devonport (poss. in Mayflower Marina) is covering your area.

I noticed some oddities with a local harbour and then spotted that the source had changed. The usual source, located next to the harbour, had shutdown temporarily and feed was coming from another station miles away partially hidden by a hill.

I just checked now on my PC and I get the header and a few peripheral bits and pieces but no map. I noticed that one of the files being called was Cloudflare which is a CDN package. I understand there is a bit of a learning process in getting that to work right with file updates. Perhaps MarineTraffic have just added Cloudflare and haven't got through the learning process yet. Just a hypothesis.

Might explain why it works in some locations and not others if it is more "Distributed". Currently working perfectly on my laptop (Win 7, IE v11).

It's not working Swansea bay area either . It does say flashplayer is out of date and is offering me FLV player instead . Any good or stay away ?

Marine traffic uses a network of both privately owned aeriels and feeds from other systems (not the UK coastguard system which does not export data outside of the MCA). A lot of the accuracy of the feeds are affected by aerial location and variable aerial quality, which may lead to closer inshore, or further offshore, targets being missed.

AIS is also only a VHF signal, and is vulnerable to the same line of site, power, and atmospheric issues. There have been plenty of times when vessels not showing to us on the MCA system have been visible on others, and vice versa.

All working fine on a Win8.1 laptop currently.

Well that, at least, is nothing to do with MarineTraffic. That's just out of date software at your end I'm afraid

Well having the most up to date software is not helping me because it doesn't work on my home laptop with win 8.1 and latest IE version 11 that came with the upgrade from win8.0 whereas it works on SWMBO's machine with Win7 and the IE11 that came with and she has some sites that say she needs to get the latest flash player (yet when she downloads it as asked still keeps saying it needs the latest version) I think they do it just to pi55 us simple folk off. I might be wrong but I suspect the Marine Traffic site has not been optimised or tested on the latest IE11. MY boat machine with vista and IE9 doesn't work either but tries to, it looks like the map is in a frame that doesn't load. It does work OK on that machine with Chrome however.
