is it legal to use this in uk?

huge ferny whitmore

saw huge ferny whitington using one, or at least being shown, how to and attempting to use on, on his cottaging prog during last winter.

Which bit of the legislation are you referring to?
havent the faintest idea, none I would think.
Just an excuse to post the HSBC ad. and find out how to embed a YouTube video in a post

Not legal on the Tamar Estuary, and probably not further upstream. There has been a moratorium on commercial net fishing for nearly 10 years which is about to be extended for another 5 years I hear. This is a voluntary thing by the commercial net fishermen to try to get more salmon spawning up river and that type of net, quite common in SE Asia, would certainly be not allowed in the Tamar Valley.

It's a cast net, or throw net which are widely on sale in the UK and used with no problems. But check local byelaws if using one in controlled waters, like harbours and estuaries.

Here's one on ebay.

way too sensible an answer...........

the other parts are of course - making the thing work and returning anything that is undersized etc as required by those bylaws

I haven't caught a thing in mine yet - and I've had it years!

Congrats Vic S on your technical success !! That advert makes me a liitle bit mad because in real life the cormorant has a ring round its neck to stop the bird swallowing it! Wouldnt look good on telly.
