Is it just me

I think it's probably just you.

BTW, You may be able to help with a question. Perusing an old Nautical Almanac in the privy this morning, as is my wont, I alighted on the pages dealing with North West Scotland. So far as I can see, Western Loch Tarbert is to the east of Loch Tarbert. What's that all about? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

OK Happy to help

If you have the map with north at the top then East loch tarbert - any east loch tarberts are always going to be to the left of west loch tarbert except - and here comes the rub - except when you have west loch tarbert on Kintyre which is to the east of west loch tarbert on Jura - which again is to the east of the one in Harris.
So its quite simple really
turn the maps upside down - this usually works for part of the time
Hope that helps

Err, dosen't the Sound of Jura kind of get in the way of that theory. Same with Passage of Tiree and the Sea of the Hebrides or are you intending to confuse those who sail in drier climes? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Not sure what you mean..., thats like saying do you have to through Ayr to get into Motherwell ?
So
you get the map and turn it upside down - don't see what the problem is really - or are you thinking because we've done that the tide tables will all be wrong...well, thats a good point I suppose - but then again - it shouldn't really make too much difference.
At the moment with Cape Wrath at the top of the page the tides come from Kintyre UP to Oban and then conversely, they ebb DOWN to Kintyre, so if we turn that around they now flood down to Oban and ebb up to Kintyre. Actually this would be quite a handy thing because places like Cuan and Dorus Mor are never open when you need them to be so all in all its quite a good scheme - well done.

Goodness, nothing as complicated, all I was getting at was the meaning of 'tarbert'. But, hey you convince me!

Haven't gone through the Cuan Sound, played instead with the whirlpools off Luing when heading north and south, but when weather window allows I plan to give it a go. Had some fun off the Dorus Mor mind you! And we won't even mention the ebb tide off the Corryvreckan, when our wee Vancouver's engine seriously got kicked into action PDQ /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
