My fuel barge has done the same and stopped selling fuel to pleasure craft.

A quiet word in the ear of the MD of MDL might be in order....for twas good olde fashioned stinky rather extra smokey red that was going into my tanks when we were forced to fill up at Chatham last month.

Not so, red diesel is legal to sell in the UK but duty must be charged or a declaration on the 60/40 basis signed. It is the easiest and simplest solution for leisure use - anything else may be subject to revenue investigation.

Your fuel barge has chosen to sell only at commercial rate, basically because they can't be bothered with the hassle of selling at different rates. They clearly sell more volume to commercial users so are not interested in the "casual" punter.

Yep, and don't forget the insurance, annual servicing of the lifejackets, fire extinguishers etc.etc

Indeed the yearly charges for "updating" jackets life rafts (I have 2 and it sabout £250 each) Surveyors charge every fews years too for the out of water survey, oh so lift out charges.

I looked into this and whhilst its not easy, I was told you have to show an income, I know where your going and I dont blame you, I was told if you claim a £1,000 of fuel you have to show an income why you used so much fuel. But why do I see commercial boats fuel up pay cash and go, no paper trail nothing.

I asked when I fuel up if I pay cash can I have commercial, they said if you tell us your commercial we will put it in. nudge wink say no more no what I mean.

Which fine until somebody abuses the system big time ....and they will......and the revenue start having a good look at this fuel firms books and then do him for the missing money and then hey presto possibly another small business goes tits up cos somebody feels the present 60/40 deal is just not quite good enough.
