A grotty hole that you'd never miss. That said, aside from food and beer it's full of history, take a walk around the cemeteries in the town, they read like a maritime history lesson, Cadiz, Trafalgar and the like. Also, if you're at a loose end watch the local smugglers running the gaunlet in and out of the port or wander round some on the back-end high-rise areas and play 'spot the very expensive motor under the tarp' or 'spot the smugller be-spatted and gold adorned' in the local bars. A trip up the rock yields fantatics view but treat the moneys like 'rabies on legs'. I got to say, I quite liked it /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Rota is the nicest (and probably the most convenient if you are just passing). A very pretty small town. Water very shallow on the approach to the marina on low water (and don't make the mistake of going into the Naval base).
Second choice is Puerto de Santa Maria, just a little way up the river. The marina is pretty much in the old town, and again very nice (but in a more olde worlde way). Call ahead as it is small.
Third for me is Puerto Sherry - bigger, boring, but usually has space.
(I haven't been into any of the Cadiz side marinas - the pilots don't make them sound too attractive.)

[/ QUOTE ] Which is why they're so uncrowded. OK, they're separated from Cadiz by a rather industrial container park, but it's only a 20 minute walk to the centre of this delightful old city from Puerto America. (top right in this link)
