Is boating in a death spiral?

Whenever I read an English newspaper.....the main subject is always about what new tax the Chancellor is thinking up next. I would imagine that anyone with disposable income is carefully watching events rather than rushing out to buy
Or alternatively, rushing out to buy before it gets taxed.

It's not only taxes...

it's asset markets too.; am i going to lose 10% of my net worth on a single day?

and what happens the next day?

everything seems a bit less stable now.

If you can’t afford a new boat now, and you are worth 10% less, then it doesn’t matter. Thankfully, there is an answer, buy one of the very low cost 25 to 35 footers that are on the market. Sailing has never been so affordable. Heck, drawdown some of that juicy equity in your houses and buy that new boat, plus sticking it up to the exchequer. A win, win.

In some cases in France it is illegal to spend your children’s inheritance…..buy a boat before they think of that in Britain

Founder of Body Shop in the uk famously gave her children but a paltry financial inheritance on her death .

I still like late footballer George Bests attitude to living

I joined a sailing club in 1997 that waived membership subs for any member reaching the age of 80.

There are now so many octeganarian members that the policy is no longer economically sustainable, and has been withdrawn. :(

There was a Spirit 46 for sale in Turkey a few years ago that I was sorely tempted by. It had started out called SKI IV (an acronym for Spending the Kids Inheritance 4)

Thankfully I resisted, but I always thought it a great name for a boat.

I once saw a motorboat in the Solent called "Thanks Mum", and I used to berth near a yacht called "Gratuity". The latter owned, I think, by an ex-WRNS officer with a sense of humour.

And what offspring wouldn’t give a kidney and sliver of liver to their old man
I was thinking of the reverse
What offspring wouldn’t flog the recently deceased parents organs when they get a sneak preview of the Will?
“ Spent the lot, sort yourself out, good luck son”😳
