Hi

I am taking a 3.2M inflatable with a 15HP outboard to the south of France for a week in July, do I really need an ICC?

Am I likely to be stopped and asked for one?

Anyone with any experience of this sort of thing?

Yes .

It is also obligatory if your boat is more than 5.5 metres long
and/or capable of speeds greater than 20/km/h and/or has an engine greater than 6.1 hp/4.1KW

Depends where you launch and where you are going and more importantly if things go wrong and you have an accident!

Anyone with any experience of this sort of thing?

Yes , we took our rib and Trailer Sailer to France for 3 weeks last year. My research at the time was such that as the saily boat was SSR'd there was no need for an ICC.

The rib however fell into the above category.

I was never asked for any documents the entire trip other than passports.

My advice would be get an ICC.

Cue for thread to go to 50 pages about the merits of registration, men in black, vat, SSR or Not

Similar thing in France just buy a 9.9hp sticker for the outboard;)

You mean 6 Surely:) Used to be 9.8 but things have got tighter.

"It is also obligatory if your boat is more than 5.5 metres long

Just in case I had a 6hp hood on a 9.8 Tohatsu.:)

I think a 9.8 on a 3.2m rib will do at least 20km/h done on 2 charges sir:eek:

It's 6 hp now over this you need a licence , ICC should do. Or one of their " permit du Mer " Certs
Insurance ..?.. May need to launch in a marina.
Will I get stopped/ who,s bothered ??
Depends where you go . Think about it why are the bateaux ecoles busy? ---- they enforce it , Gendarme du Mer do spot cheeks in busy areas , all doc,s not just permit du Mer or equivalent , reg doc , insurance poss bill of sale , oddly never vat. It's a large Grey 50 - 60 ft " coastguard cutter " type , with a big RIB that they deploy to come alone side and board .
I have been done 3 x in 7 years say 50 weeks in all .All ok , but I have witnessed tickets written out to others . They are also armed .
Then you have a kinda beach patrol, say a Bostan Whaler with a pair of Verado 275s , blue light etc , these are unarmed and the boat is labelled " ville du Cannes " . These busybodies enforce speed limets and move you on if it's deemed you are anchored in the wrong place .
So it's your risk, but in high summer they have a presence , and if you end up in a " situation " for whatever reason , no papers Hmm? Keep plenty of € with you , they will escort you remove your boat if no licence . Jet skiers need a licence too.
Considering the vol of people on the Mer , So F it's very safe,

Thanks for all the advice.

Do you think I need to carry all documents on me? Insurance, bill of sale, ICC etc?

Its a 3.2M inflatable and I'll be in swimming trunks, I cant see I will be able to keep anything dry let alone paperwork!
