Is an electronic logbook acceptable in UK?

As there is no requirement, there is no requirement. Simples.

However

Even in the UK - if you are "lucky" enough to have a visit from a Border Force RIB they may ask if you have a log. They may already have asked where you have come from and are headed to. If the two agree you aren't assured safe passage... ...if the two disagree you are going to be doing lots of explaining. Oh and they know exactly where you came from! So no good making the Log say something different...

.

Best just not to have one then. :)
Luckily I can still remember where I've just came from and I don't need to write it down. Hopefully I'll never get to the stage when I do. I tried it once on a weeks holiday but found it a complete waste of time. Never looked at it again. If I'm away for a few days the only thing I write down is the forecast, even then they are so vague it's hardly worthwhile.

Totally, same here, and I get about a bit.

Not required.

The Merchant Shipping Act 1995 (s.77) (MSA 1995) requires an Official Log Book to be carried on UK flagged ships, except for:

a ship belonging to a general lighthouse authority;
a ship of less than 25 gross tons; or
a pleasure yacht
The Merchant Shipping (Official Log Books) Regulations 1981 specify the particulars to be entered in official log books or annexes to them; the persons who should make, sign and witness such entries; the manner; the time of making them and the provision for their amendment or cancellation; and the manner, times and circumstances for the production and delivery of official log books to the appropriate superintendent or proper officer. The official log book contains pages for each type of entry required which ensures that the entries are completed in a way which complies with the regulations.

At present Official Logbooks are provided free of charge to UK registered vessels.

As I suspected, Pleasure Yachts are not required to have an official log book.

The Official Log Book referred to in the Merchant Shipping Act. Is not the Bridge, Deck or Navigational log book. which are not required by pleasure yachts ether.

My "Official" log book. Is a pre printed version by Evergreen. Any note book would do. I fill it in occasionally. Usually after the trip. I sometimes put when we left when we passed some point of interest. If I get really keen I have even put the tide in occasionally. Its often written up by my wife or daughter.
Its for our own use and interest and is not intended to comply with any regulations. So its format is irrelevant to anyone but us.
If the US or Canadian Coast Guard or Border Guards. Ever want to check it they can read all about what we had for lunch and how the dog spent the day barking at cute seals and equally pertinent information.

I do make a note when we call in at port of entry and if we declared anything. JIK

Would the UK Border Guards give a rats ass or not?
