Is a Parsun F9.8 a good motor?

I made a mistake when I sold my 1985 2 stroke Evinrude 9.9 Outboard for peanuts.
I should have kept it. Now 5 years later as I consider buying a boat which will take an Auxiluary I am faced with the same choice.
The only thing I would say is if you buy a Honda or Yamaha and put it on Ebay or Boats & Outboards in 3 years time you would be swamped with bidders and would your Parsun/Hinea/Victor get a bid.
You should also consider where you live. If you live in the N of England and your Parsun went wrong you could actually take it to the excellent Bill Higham and have it repaired as they are the importers.
And when I say excellent I am factual as I bought a 10 year old 25hp Suzuki off them and PX a 4 Hp Mercury.
And they did not charge me to fit the Suzuki although another dealer wanted £200. And they did it while I waited.

I bought a secondhand Yamaha last year and dealt with Simon Higham and can confirm he is as honest as you can get in the marine trade, even though we never met everything went well and as promised, he even stored engine for me for several months until I needed it.
I have no connection other than being a customer.

It always amazes me when peeps ask for an opinion on a specific item and dozens of forumites respond without any personal knowledge of the item in question-just trotting out perceptions, urban myths and predjudices! Just one person with some actual/real experience to relate would be a result!

Yep, someone writing stuff that bears no relation to the actual facts can be annoying. Can't it.

Are there any rules about not reviving an old thread after 6 years? I searched the keyword 'Parsun' because I'm looking for updated reviews since my Tohatsu is showing its age. Hoping to revive the discussion..

Not so long ago I was following a thread on Cruiser's Forum which was similar in theme and attitude to this but not involving Parsun. I could not help pointing out the irony of an american member trashing chinese equipment and saying something like "Buy japanese!". This reminded me of a favourite 'movie' (I'm flexible that way..) Mosquito Coast. If the system will allow, I'm attaching a link to scene in a hardware shop.

What goes around, comes around..

I very had two parson outboards running a 20 foot cat and they are nine years old now. I have never been great on maintainable but they both start with two pulls each and have done since I've had them. They get left out in the weather and I am sure that the reviews I have read were mainly written by opposition dealers, I also have two suzikis and I don't understand comments like parsun "run rough". All four sound pretty similar to me! . I've had a great run out of all four, and none look like they are dying yet!!
