Is 40" enough

Myself and SWMBO have pretty much decided on a certain 40" flybridge boat but as we would like to do more northern france and west country cruising so --- What size boat did you end up with so that you felt confident crossing channel without being to restricted by weather ( within reason of course ) . Thanks in advance for any kind of info , we would just like to make sure we are 100% on our choice .

I have crossed the channel in boats from 22 foot to 42 feet, all good fun, its all about comfort and ability to keep going.

Its not really all about size, more about the design, construction and ability of the crew. Bath tubs have crossed the channel with the right conditions. But I think what you mean is levle of comfort and security. And I think here you have to realize that 55 foot flybridge boats slam around just a much as their smaller siblings, perhaps keeping going after the others have come off the plane. Choose a reputable make, rel;iable engines, know the limits of the boat and of yourselves and your choice of 40 foot would be on average very comfortable.

40' is a good size for regular channel crossings. I wouldn't feel the need to go bigger just to get better sea keeping, if I didn't want or need the extra space or extra cabins.

Goes through very rough weather rather than over it and gives a more comfortable ride!

40 ft is fine if it's a good design. My P35's been just about every where, in all sort of conditions. I'd never want anything bigger.
