Irish registered boat dilemma

I'm not sure the irish register is legally valid anyway. Is it just an irish sailing association list? Surely not a genuine ships register in the international sense. But I've been wrong before... ...perhaps someone with more knowledge than me could clarify?
There is a Register of Shipping which our Dept. of Transport set up in 1938, when they took over responsibility for such matters from the Board of Trade, but when they decided to set up an equivalent of the UK's SSR, in the mid-2000s, they handed over responsibility for its organisation and administration to the ISA, with less than satisfactory results:(

Pretty much everyone here has relatives living in the UK who will oblige with the use of their address if necessary:)

Think you will find that MCA is becoming more active in spotting such actions. Several instances reported here in the last couple of years.

Still, at least if one can get away with it no need to worry for the next 5 years.

I had my boat registered with the ISA, when they decided to stop running the register they advised me that I could use the dept of transport ship register instead.I've yet to do this
so I don't know whats involved, have chanced going abroad since and never had any difficulties.Still I would prefer to have everything in order when going foreign.

Think you will find you have to go through the measurement survey and history of ownership bit if it is anything like the UK equivalent. Real PITA.

And the VHF licence is much more of a PITA too.

If the UK SSR doesn't work out for the OP, worth trying the UK Pt 1 register.

Ofcom issue your radio license and MMSI number. That might become crucial In an emergency situation

Bad prose on my part. The bit "Unless you plan to sail abroad, why bother registering at all?" referred to the SSSI and not Ofcoms radio licence. As I said., Ofcom is a totally seperate issue - the OP seemed to be mixing the two.
