Nice little article in PBO about three islands on the SW coast.

In my own opinion, Valentia Island is very nice, with friendly pubs and very good restaurants, Cape Clear Island is OK, but Bear Island is totally, totally boring.

The most outstanding island in this area is without doubt, Sherkin Island. A barbecue in Horseshoe Harbour is an experience to be savoured and there are also three art galleries on the island.

It must be a printing error ,however, to say it's only 35 miles from Cape Clear Island to the Blasket Sound. I wish it was, as the sea state from The Bull Rock Lighthouse to Bolus Head never seems to be less than "rough" !

The west coast has always held me spellbound. The run up to Galway and around Conemara (sp!). Some of the most beautiful coastline. The shannon estuary can also be quite enchanting. Once above the lock and onto the Shannon navigation the run upto Lough Derg is also a nice trip.

I haven't gone north of the Aran Islands yet. I'm waiting for the new marina to open in Galway so I can use it as a base for exploring the Connemara coastline. I particularly want to visit Killary Harbour from the sea.
