iridium sat phone engineer, Clyde Area?

Hi, The boat has an Iridium Sat phone, installed when the boat was built in 2007. As far as I can tell it has never been used.
When I bought the boat in 2012, the broker said that it had never been commissioned, and I've never seen the need for a sat phone, sailing the west coast of Scotland.
I was wondering today, if it still worked, hence the question, can anyone recommend a marine electronics person or company, working in the Clyde area who I could get to test it, with a view to getting it working ....... mainly for fun.

I believe that it will require a sim card just like a cellphone. Not cheap if prepaid. There are various videos on you tube and maybe check out with these felllows re sim cards. |There will be others.
