I wouldn't like to be on that boat.....I once experienced a 18 hour delay getting into Dun Laoghaire, Dublin, in storm force winds........I was so sick I was hoping someone would come to shoot me, to put me out of my misery.

Latest news: passengers stuck on ferry because bow doors have jammed, after being at sea in storm force winds for over 24 hrs............those waves must have been pretty damn big!

Oh dear, poor sods.

Last time I took that ferry from Cherbourg it was a deepest winter night sailing, almost empty, and I got involved with two Irish Horse Dealers from Limerick.

I don't remember anything else.

'Black outs' are normal when you take too many pints of 'the Black stuff'

There were dese two men of the turf
Who sailed with a man o the surf
When the sea kicked up rough
And they imbibed the black stuff......
??

I never understand why they make the ferries go BACK OUT when the Grande Rade is such a big, sheltered area. We once had to do the same when a Brittany Ferries boat couldn't dock due to high seas. I had a group of children and they'd all been sick out at sea. They immediately recovered once we were in the Grande Rade and had a bite to eat, then the port authority sent the boat back out for 2.5 hours. Mmm. Nice.

the door could only be opened four hours after the arrival, people began getting off the ferry at 1920h.
About 250 of the 500 passengers are teenagers returning from a school trip, they are being hosted at a local school.

All the roads from Cherbourg (and the rest of Cotentin) and parts of Normandy are closed so the remaining 250 passengers are being offered a stay at the gare maritime.

What a nightmare :(
