Ipswich...opinions about the town..

Hi

Norwich seems to get the balance right .Development in Ipswich seems to be a mish mash with no overall vision , some new bits seem to lack quality design and construction.

Just my opinion only

Rob

Whist tis true we are in a depression, much of the empty buildings became vacant during the longest ever period of continuous "growth" we have ever seen. Which leads me to suspect there is something very amiss.

Yes the County Council spends its time trying to make IBC look bad. It is a continuous battle for IBC to survive as SCC tries to take over. This is where I live and where my family have been for over 1,000 years and until the last 30 years it was a wonderful place to live and bring up kids. I spent my childhood on the river and in the countryside just out side the town and I and my mates had the most wonderful time growing up here. The town centre is now openly referred to as the ghetto and the dock and river is virtually completely fenced off thanks to the banks and developers:-(

So what's the situation with the unfinished blocks of flats?

One set above the Dance East studios looks like it was 90% finished before the money ran out and the other concrete structure looks like a difficult problem to resolve. There's more flats being built on the other side of the basin behind the Haven Marina and was wondering why someone hasn't finished the other lot off first?

We all have this idea that at some future time, all towns and villages will be "finished". This will never happen. There will always be a mixture of finished buildings/houses, mature ones, slightly decrepit ones, those ripe for demolition, and partially completed ones. The eyesores in Ipswich are just part of the normal fabric of life and we should learn to accept them, if not actually love them.

The Dance East block is just a shell with the cladding falling off. The wine rack is a different proposition as part of the planning permission requires the building of a stacker car parking system which would cost millions. The whole lot is a disaster and I like to see it to remind IBC how wrong the previous CEO got so many things. There is obviously a load of new building on New Cut West but few people know the Anglo Norden site is already the planned site for 560 flats and that can be seen on the IBC web page. The Island site is gated now, quite unlawfully, as that is designated as a private closed housing developent. The whole issue means building on the flood plain and many people will fight it to the bitter end. The whole river bed actually belongs to IBC even though ABP run the show.
